A huge number of recipes are known and shared from generation to generation in Africa. The wide variety of African recipes comes from the cultural diversity across the continent, as each tribe has its own unique culinary heritage and traditions.

African cuisine is very diverse, with regional differences in the preparation and use of spices, flavors, and cooking techniques. This African recipe collection will introduce you to the rich food culture of African people. Here are some of the most common African dishes that you should definitely try.

1- WEST AFRICAN FUFUFufu is a very famous African dish that originated in West Africa, specifically Nigeria and Ghana. If you follow these step-by-step instructions, you can make delicious fufu right in your own kitchen, just like in the motherland!

2- SUKUMA WIKI | AFRICAN BRAISED COLLARD GREENS– one of my favorite dishes is sukuma wiki. It’s a staple in many East African homes. Best of all, its ingredients are cheap and easy to find.

3- SADZA – UGALI (AFRICAN CORNMEAL)– Sadza, also referred to as Ugali in Kenya, is a staple food, particularly throughout Southern Africa. Sadza can be eaten with vegetables or topped with meat or fish and sauce. If you’re looking to learn how to make Sadza-Ugali, read on to discover the simple steps you need to follow!

4- INJERA– Injera is Ethiopian sourdough bread traditionally made with teff flour. It looks similar to a crepe or a Mexican tortilla, however, it is completely free.

15- DORO WAT– This is one of the most popular dishes in Ethiopia. It is a spicy Ethiopian stew made of boiled chicken, onions, and spicy seasoning. It is usually eaten with injera bread.

17- AKARA – ACARAJE– Akara is delicious and popular street food in most west African countries and places like Brazil, where it is commonly sold by vendors. It is made with black-eyed peas, peeled, blended, seasoned, and fried.

18- WEST AFRICAN MEAT PIE– The West African meat pie is a savory pastry filled with spiced ground beef, onions, and carrots. You will love the taste of this savory delight!

19- EFO RIRO– Efo riro is a delicious West African dish made of a spicy vegetable stew. While efo riro can be made with different combinations of meat, you can also choose to omit the meat and make it purely vegan.

23- KACHUMBARI– Kachumbari is a spicy tomato and onion salad. It’s very popular in Tanzania – as well as in neighboring countries, like Zambia and Kenya. It’s actually is one of my favorite dishes because it’s really tasty, easy to prepare, low-cost. check out the recipe below.

24- YASSA POULET –Yassa Poulet is a Senegalese chicken dish, made with marinated and braised chicken. It’s served over rice or couscous. Yassa is considered a national dish of Senegal.

25- BANGA SOUPis a popular dish in Nigeria. It’s a thick, creamy soup that has many variations depending on the region and chef. Traditionally Banga Soup is served with swallow food like pounded yam and fufu but can also be served over rice.

26- PERI-PERI CHICKENPeri-peri chicken is a dish well-known around the world. It has become an international phenomenon. In fact, it’s so popular that peri peri sauce can now be found in supermarkets across the globe!

27- EWA RIRO – STEWED BEANS– Stewed beans are a much-loved Nigerian food. The recipe is simple: you take some dry beans (black-eyed peas), boil them for about 10 minutes, then simmer them in water for about an hour or till it becomes tender. The puff puff is made by mixing flour and water together to form a paste which is then fried to form balls of dough.

32- AFRICAN GOATMEAT PEPPER SOUP– Pepper soup is a popular West African dish made from goat meat and various spices. The soup is cooked with local spices and condiments, this gives pepper soup its distinct flavor. I highly recommend trying this out. It is hot, spicy, and delicious!

33- NIGERIAN EGGROLLS – Nigerian Egg Rolls are a popular snack in Nigeria. However, since they are very filling, they can be served as breakfast with a cup of coffee or tea. They are also great for brunch with a cup of orange juice!
