OHTF Lady Eagles Help Win 73rd Oak Hill Relays by 1 Point Over State Ranked Delta – Nuber Lone Individual Champion, Campbell & Highley Shine

The 73rd Annual Oak Hill Co-Ed Relays were held Saturday and the OHTF Lady Eagles did their part combining with the boys to win the Team Championship by a slim 1 point 158-157 over the defending Champion Delta Eagles with Bluffton coming in 3rd with a highly respectable 101 points. Delta who is ranked #22 in the state on the girls side and #24 in the state on the boys side had broke OHTF’s 10 year streak of titles in 2022. The 2023 Oak Hill Relays were cancelled. Delta is fresh off a Top 10 Indoor State Meet finish with their girls in March.

The Oak Hill Relays feature a different format in which all individual events are comined for a grand total and relays are a combintation of two male athletes and two female athletes. This year’s event featured 10 teams.

On the day the Lady Eagles combined with the boys to win 6 of the 19 events, grab 10 Runner Up finishes, and had no finish combined or in a relay below 3rd place. The Lady Eagles managed to have 1 individual champion as well as post 1 new program record as well.

Sophom*ore Lexi Nuber was the lone individual event champion on the day for the Lady Eagles posting a new pr of just over 50 seconds and winning the 300 Meter Hurdles. Her time is good for 5th all time in program history. Nuber teamed up with Junior Bella Taylor to help win the 300 Hurdles event overall. The hurdling duo came back to help grab a 3rd place in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay as well. Nuber grabbed a Runner Up finish in the 4×400 Meter Underclassmen Relay to add to her respectable day along with Freshman Kora Pond.

Junior Ellie Campbell managed to earn two strong individual event Runner Up finishes, break her own program record in the long jump, all while helping two foursomes and two relays to one 1st place finish and three 2nds. Campbell popped a 17-7.5 to take 2nd in the Long Jump and once again better her program mark. She teamed with Sophom*ore Ava Miller to help take 2nd overall in the event. She also cleared 5-1 in the High Jump was 2nd place individually and along with Taylor who finished 5th individually helped grab the win in the event overall. Campbell was part of the 2nd place finishing Sprint Medley Relay along with classmate Cail Bowlin and Runner Up 4×400 Meter Upperclassmen Relay with Senior Leah Highley.

Highley had another steller meet as the IUK committ took 2nd overall in the 400 Meter Dash in a new personal best of 59.7. She was battling Delta’s multi time State Champion, All American, and Notre Dame committ Nicki Southerland. Her time marked just the 3rd time in program history a Lady Eagle broke 60 seconds (Weaver, Moffitt). Highley joined up with Pond who took 4th individually in the event to finish 2nd overall combined.

Highley was also part of three relays that earned two 1st and one Runner Up. She was part of the Mid Distance Relay with Sophom*ore Biruk Travis that took 1st as well as the 4×100 Meter Upperclassmen Relay that also grabbed the win with Bowlin. She joined Campbell on the 4×400 Meter Upperclassmen Relay to close out the meet in 2nd and secure the team title.

Both throwing events posted Runner Up combination finishes and Junior Jennessa Shields led the way with an individual 2nd in the Shot Put. She combined with Junior Gwen Thompson to take 2nd in the event overell and joined with Sophom*ore Sarah Beth Tripp to tak 2nd in the Disc as Shields was 5th individually.

Junior Abby Sneed and Miller helped grab a 1st place overall in the Pole Vault with Sneed taking 3rd individually and Miller 5th. Miller’s strong day was not over as she combined with Freshman Annie Hale to take 2nd in the 4×100 Meter Underclassmen Relay.

Travis and Junior Audrey Woodard went 3rd and 5th in the 3200 Meter Run to help combine for a 2nd overall in the event. Woodard was part of the 3rd place 4×800 Meter Upperclassmen Relay along with Senior Evelin Perez.

Sophom*ore Audrey Rex teamed up with Pond to help grab a 1st Place finish in the Distance Medley Relay.

Bowlin and Rex went 2nd and 6th individually to help combine for a 2nd overall in the 100 Meter Dash.

Sophom*ore Addison Carey and Freshman Quinn Brunner were part of the 3rd place finishing 4×800 Meter Underclassmen Relay.

Delta’s Southerland was the Orval Hack Wilson Female Athlete of the Meet for the 3rd consecutive year.

The Lady Eagles are back in action competing Tuesday April 16th when they host Eastbrook and Elwood.

OHTF Golden Eagles Help Win 73rd Oak Hill Relays by 1 Point Over State Ranked Delta – Sweet Wins Male Athlete of the Meet, Brower & Johnson Also Win Events

Delta is fresh off a Runner Up finish at the HSR Indoor State Meet in March one spot ahead of the Golden Eagles.

Sweet earned one of the three individual titles on the day for the Golden Eagles in the 3200 Meter Run in a time of 10 flat. Classmate Toby Sneed was not too far behind in 10:05 as the duo helped combine for a 2nd overall in the event. Sweet was part of a 1st place relay finish in the Mid Distance Relay along with classmate AJ Austin. Sweet was part of a 2nd place finish in the 4×400 Meter Upperclassmen Relay with classmate Owen Jackson and a 3rd place finish in the 4×800 Meter Upperclassmen Relay with Junior Lance Wyrick. Sweet became the 1st Golden Eagle athlete to win the award since Sammy Sommers in 2019.

Senior Nate Brower took individual honors in the Pole Vault with a jump of 12-6. He combined with his younger Freshman brother Kyle to win the event overall as Kyle was 2nd individually.

Senior Tai Johnson was the individual champion in the Discus with a throw over 135 feet. He joined up with Junior Barrett Jones for a 2nd overall in the event. Johnson also grabbed a combined Runner Up finish in the Shot Put as he and Sophom*ore Thane Jones went 4th and 6th individually.

Wyrick was part of two event wins as he took 2nd overall in the 300 Hurdles and teamed up with Junior Drew Elzinga who was 5th individually in the event for 1st overall. He was also part of the Distance Medley Relay that took 1st place along with Jackson.

Jackson was in position to win the open 400 Meter Dash and post a lifetime best but fell before the finish line and got up to take 3rd invidually. He and Austin teamed up to earn a 2nd overall in the event.

Austin and Brower were part of the 2nd place Long Jump combo finish taking 5th and 7th individually respectively.

Elzinga had a very strong day as on top of his win the combined 300 Hurdles he helped team up with Senior Levi Trexler to win the High Jump event. Elzinga took 7th in the event while Trexler’s jump of 6-1 was good enough for 2nd invidually. Elzinga also added a 3rd in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay with Junior Micah McKinney.

Golden Eagle sprinters had a strong showing Saturday as newcomers Freshman Jalen Scott and Junior Reese Hernandez both ran tough in the 100 Meter Dash taking 3rd and 4th individually behind state ranked sprinters helping combine for a 2nd overall. Hernandez ran a huge anchor leg for the 4×100 Meter Upperclassmen Relay holding off Delta for 1st and event that secured the lead. He was joined on the relay by classmate Morshown Cotton. Scott was part of 2nd place finish in the 4×100 Meter Relay along with Sophom*ore Isaac Mitchener and 2nd place in the Sprint Medley along with Cotton.

Sophom*ores Marc Caritos and Brayden Sommers teamed up to help the 4×400 Meter Underclassmen Relay take 2nd while Sommers joined classmate Corban Tippey on the 3rd place 4×800 Meter Underclassmen Relay.

The Golden Eagles are back in action comepting Tuesday April 16th when they host Eastbrook and Elwood.
