Why Soup is the Best Meal — Be Well (1)

Cue the “good soup” Tik Tok sound. I am a huge soup person. I personally love making soup at the beginning of the week and enjoying it for leftovers. There are so many different types of soup you can make and it’s so easy to throw everything into a pot and leave it to simmer.

Here are five reasons to love soup this winter.

1. It’s comforting.

Everyone knows this. When I’m wanting comfort food, soup is my go-to. It’s warm, filling, and easy to throw together in a pinch.

2. It’s cost-friendly.

So many soups are cost-efficient. Because it’s so easy to throw in affordable veggies, canned beans, and more, soup can be pretty inexpensive. It also usually makes a lot of servings.

3. It does well as leftovers.

Soup is one of the easiest foods to heat up. Oftentimes, it’s one of those foods that tastes better the next day. You can throw it in the microwave for a few minutes and it’s ready to eat, which makes it an easy weekday food.

4. There’s a soup for every person.

Whether you’re in the mood for a ton of veggies (Minestrone), a creamy, filling soup (Zuppa Toscana), a loaded, savory soup (Chicken Tortilla), or something light and refreshing (Lemon Orzo), there is something for you.

5. It stands on its own.

Soup often contains ingredients to make up every part of your meal. It’s easy to add protein, carbs, vegetables, or any other nutrients you want to get in for the day. Because of this, if you find the right recipe, you can just throw together a soup and call it a day.

This winter, I encourage you to cozy up and incorporate soup into your meal plan.

Be well, Auburn.
