Will Phillips' Walk-Off Single Lifts Wabash To Win Over Blackburn - Wabash College Athletics (2024)

Wabash College junior outfielder Will Phillips delivered a bases-loaded single for a walk-off 5-4 win over Blackburn College in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon at Goodrich Ballpark.

Wabash (14-12) held a 4-2 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Blackburn (4-23) rallied for a pair of runs to tie the game in the top of the eighth. Camden Scheidt led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a single up the middle, then moved to third on a one-out base hit down the right field line by Kamden Earley. An intentional walk loaded the bases for Phillips, who lifted a base hit to the left-center field wall to bring Seheidt home with the winning run.

The Little Giants took a 1-0 lead with Scheidt scoring on a bases-loaded hit batsman that sent Will Fremion to first base with the RBI. Wabash added three runs in the eighth on back-to-back triples by Scheidt and AJ Reid. Earley brought Reid home with a sacrifice fly for the third run of the inning.

Scheidt and Earley both went 3-for-4 with one RBI at the plate. Wabashscratched out 11 hits in the contest but stranded nine base runners in the game.

Braeden Bryant (2-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Wabash. The right-hander went 1.1 shutout innings, giving up one hit, one walk, and striking out three. Parker Smith started for the Little Giants, working four innings and giving up two runs on six hits with one strikeout. Matthew Wright held Blackburn to four hits and two runs in 3.2 innings of work while striking out four.
