To save Garl from the Dweller of Woe’s spell, Zale and Valere must acquire a Soul Stone. This Sea of Stars walkthrough guide will teach you each step you need to take to find the location of the Soul Stone and claim it from Romaya the necromancer.

Help from the Ferryman

Leave Lucent from its eastern exit. Once you're on the overworld map, head east again to find the port where the Ferryman resides. Seraï will trade the Coin of Undeath Accord for a one-way passage to the Flooded Graveyard, which serves as the path to the necromancer’s home.

The Flooded Graveyard

To reach Romaya’s home, head west through the bog. There are various enemies throughout this first portion of the swamp, including Lonzons, Arentees and the new Gulgul enemies.

Before you continue deep into the graveyard, head north from the save book to find a door that can only be opened with Solstice magic. Open the door to find a chest with 1x Shimmering Daggers.

Return outside and head west. As you go, you’ll find more enemies, including the new Gulgul monsters. Defeat them if you wish, then continue west until you find the doorway leading to the next area. You’ll also find a strange NPC with no name. He will tell you that he serves Romaya and suggests that you go no further, but he does nothing else besides that.

Enemy type: Gulgul

Weakness: Poison attacks

Resistance: N/A

Gulguls do not have high health or attack, but their main attack method is to use a random attack that you’ve seen previous enemies in the game use. They are primarily a weak nuisance, so defeat them quickly to eliminate their random nature from enemy encounters.

Defeat the enemies in the next area. Once they are gone, climb the rock wall to reach a new outside area. You can head east to continue on the path, but before you do, open the nearby chest to collect 1x Obsidian Ore.

Drop down from the ledge next to the chest. You’ll fall down back into the previous area, but now you’ll be at a higher elevation. Walk across the beams to reach a chest containing the Hearty Stew recipe. Drop back down to the floor then climb all the way back up so you can continue your journey. Head northeast and follow the path to the next area.

This part is a short, linear path that leads you to a larger pond. On the way, you can speak with the mysterious NPC again who will once more warn against staying here. There are also more Lonzons and Gugul to fight if you wish.

Once you reach the pond, hop into the water and climb onto the raft. Before interacting with the raft, climb onto the island it’s next to use the save book and campfire.

You can drop back down onto the raft to continue forward to your objective, but before doing so, jump into the water instead. Swim northeast to find a chest containing 1x Rainbow Conch. Once you have that, return to the raft.

When you’re standing on a raft, you can use the Mistral Bracelet to push yourself in any direction. Use the bracelet to move the raft next to land directly north of the island you were just on.

Climb up onto the patch of land to meet the NPC for a third time. This time, however, he will reveal that his name is Duke Aventry. He will also not allow you pass, which begins a mini-boss fight.

Boss Fight: Duke Aventry

Duke Aventry has no weakness or resistance to any attack type, so use whatever strong attacks you have available. His primary attack is a single strike from his club. This attack can do a lot of damage, so try to block it at all times.

advertisem*nt

Whenever he activates his Locks, break them immediately to avoid the high damage it causes. When his Lock isn’t activated though, focus on dealing strong blow after strong blow to chip at his health. Before long, he will yield.

You defeated Aventry, but you did not destroy him. As recognition of your strength, he teaches Zale the Dash Strike combat skill. This is a powerful solstice attack that deals sword and sun damage to all enemies.

With nothing else to teach the group, Aventry steps aside and allows them to enter Romaya’s home.

The Necromancer’s Lair

Jump into the water, swim over to the nearby chest and open it to find 1x Romaya’s Hairpin. Go up the stairs and engage the enemies, which include a Lonzon, a Gulgul and the new Mermofwizquard enemy type. Go through the door after defeating them.

Enemy Type: Mermofwiquard

Weakness: All attack types

Resistance: N/A

The Mermofwizquard is not a durable enemy, but it has the ability to strike all of your party members simultaneously. Unless there is a more bothersome enemy to deal with, such as a Woodland Spirit, defeat these wizards quickly so they cannot deal damage to your entire party.

Follow the hallway to the floating platform. Jump on it and flip its lever to have carry you to the next hallway. Defeat the Gulguls in your way to keep moving forward and go through the door to reach the lair's center chamber.

When you reach the center chamber, three green skulls mounted over the door leading to Romaya’s chambers will start to move. They will float away from the door, which will close in response to their absence.

One skull goes through a door to the west, another will go through a door to the east and one will rest over a nearby pile of bones. When it comes in contact with the bones, the skull will disappear and the bones will magically transform into a new enemy type, the Revenant.

Green Skull #1

Follow the trail toward the center of the room and the Revenant. On the way though, use the save book and fireplace. When you’re done with them, engage the Revenant.

Enemy Type: Revenant

Weakness: Poison attacks

Resistance: N/A

Revenants start each fight with a sword and shield. While holding the shield, it attacks by dealing a single, strong blow with its sword. Once they lose enough of their health, however, their shield will break. This agitates the Revenant while also giving them more mobility. When they attack without their shield, they strike a single character three times in a row. When their shield is gone, you need to use your strongest attacks to defeat it quickly before it has a chance to retaliate.

Once the Revenant is destroyed, the green skull will reappear and return to its place above the door. With one skull found, you will need to find the others to re-open the door that leads to Romaya.

Green Skull #2

You cannot venture very far into the western area at the moment, so head through the eastern door to find the skull in that area first.

Follow the path across the wooden beams, then head south. Defeat the Gulguls and Lonzons in your way so you can activate the nearby lever, which will cause moving platforms to shift to new positions.

Jump onto the platform that came closest to your position and flip the lever on it so it will move back to its original position. Jump to the nearby ledge and climb the ladder there to reach an upper floor. Open the chest north of where you climbed up to find 1x Spectral Cape.

Walk west from the cape to find and knock a rope ladder down to the previous floor. Climb down the ladder and return to the first lever. Flip the lever to make a floating platform approach the stationary ladder you climbed earlier.

With that platform in place, climb the rope ladder, then descend the stationary ladder to reach the floating platform you just made move. Hop onto it and flip its lever to make it move south again. Jump from it to the nearby floor. Open the nearby chest to find 1x Obsidian Ore, then go through the exit to the east.

Jump down the series of ledges to reach the bottom floor. Defeat the Mermofwizquard , Gulgu and Lonzon there. There is another part of the bottom floor to the north, but there is a pit between you and it.

To reach this other area, climb the nearby ladder to reach an upper ledge. Leap down from the ledge to part of the bottom floor that you couldn’t reach, then go through large door.

In this room you’ll find a large chest containing the Graplou item. This tool allows you to latch onto enemies or specific objects and propel yourself forward. You can use this leap across large gaps.

When you use the Graplou to grab enemies, it will initiate a battle and count as a first strike. You should use the Graplou whenever you encounter an enemy and want to generate Live Mana right away, as hooking an enemy with a Graplou counts as a physical attack. Use this to your advantage to generate valuable Live Mana immediately.

Go back to the previous room and stand on a nearby floor switch. The switch will cause a wooden post to rise out of the ground on the other side of the pit. Use the Graplou to hook the post and pull yourself to the other side.

advertisem*nt

Climb the ladder again and stand on the next floor switch to make another post appear. Use the Graplou again to reach that post, then climb the ladder next to you to stand at the top of a pillar. Grapple to the next post you see.

When the Graplou propels your character past the post, your character will reach, and grab hold of the ladder wall beyond the post. Climb along this wall to reach the next floor switch, which will make a third post appear. After that, you need to repeat the process with one more floor switch to return to this room's starting point. Go through the exit to return to the room with the floating platforms.

Hop on the floating platform and let it return you to the ladder. Climb up the ladder, then use the Graplou to hook onto a nearby Mermofwiquard that’s on the other side of a small pit. Defeat the Mermofwiquards so you can open the chest here to collect 1x Rainbow Conch.

When the enemies are gone, flip the lever at the northwest corner of this small area to make a pillar with a post emerge from the pit. Use it hop back across the pit, then head back down the rope ladder.

Go left from the rope ladder to find another post. Grapple it to reach another doorway. Go through the door to find another Revenant, a Mermofwiquard and a Gugul.

Defeat all of the enemies so you can reach the second Green Skull, which is at the top of the nearby steps. The skull will return to its place above the door, and you can return to the main room as well.

advertisem*nt

Go back to the previous room. When you do, a new pillar with a post will emerge from the pit southwest of the post that led you to the Green Skull’s room. Use it to reach the pathway leading back to the main room.

Green Skull #3

Defeat the enemies near the entrance, then go north to find a large, retracted stone slab on the other side of pit. There is a grapple point on the bottom of the slab, so use the Graplou to latch onto the it and pull the slab toward you.

Climb up the slab to find and activate a lever. The lever will cause large steps to appear to your left. Climb them to reach an upper floor and a doorway leading to the next area.

Open the chest near the new area’s entrance to find 1x Osseous Staff. Next, grapple across a series of two posts, open the picnic basket to find 1x Mooncradle Fish Pie and then latch onto the nearby Mermofwizquard. Defeat it and the Woodland Spirit, then grapple to the floating platform.

From the platform, use the Graplou at an angle to hook the next post you see. Flip the lever near the post to make the platform then move west. Once the platform is on the west side, grapple back to it, then grapple to the next post you see to reach the other side of this room.

advertisem*nt

Defeat the Mermofwiquards and the Woodland Spirit so you can activate the lever here. This will make the platform move south. Follow it by using the nearby post to go south as well.

When you catch up to the platform, you’ll see that it has been stopped by a stone barrier. There are also two levers near it, one at the top of the steps and one on the other side of the tightrope. First, cross the tightrope and flip that lever first to make the stone barrier retract. Then, return to the other lever and flip it so the platform can continue following its path.

When the platform stops again, grapple over to it, then grapple to the next post leading to a new portion of this room. Defeat the Guguls and climb the steps to the left to find another lever.

Activate it to make another stone barrier move out of the platform’s way. This time, the platform will actually leave this room and go into the previous room. Walk across the barrier, which now connects to this room’s starting point, and return to the previous area.

Go to where the platform stopped. Grapple to it, then to the next post and follow the path down to a group of Lonzons and Woodland Spirits. Defeat all of them so you can head west to find a doorway to a new area.

Go all the way down the steps until you reach their end. Grapple to the Mermofwiquard on the center platform and defeat it.

advertisem*nt

Once the enemy is gone, flip the lever in the top-left corner of the platform to make a new floating platform move into position. Grapple across it and to the next post to your right.

Flip the lever here to make the platform ascend. Follow it by climbing the ladder. Grapple across the platform again to reach the opposite side of the room. Defeat the Gulgul and Mermofwiquards here so you can flip the next lever. Doing so will cause the platform to rise again while also generating a ladder for you to do the same.

Flip the next lever at the top of the ladder to make the platform move west. Grapple across it to reach another part of the room with another lever. Flip this lever to make the platform move south and travel to the previous area, similar to the earlier platform.

The lever will also make a post appear. Grapple to it so you can leap to a ladder. Climb the ladder to return to the top of this area. Return to the previous area to find that the platform has moved next to some nearby steps. Go up the steps, grapple to the platform, and grapple to the post on the other side.

Go up the steps to find some Mermofwiquards, a Gulgul and a third Revenant. Defeat them all to find the third and final Green Skull. The Skull will return to its proper place above the main door.

Go back down the steps and use the Graplou to go across the floating platforms to reach this area's starting point. Return to the main area and use the fireplace and the save book. Once you are ready, go through the now-opened door with the Green Skulls to find Romaya.

Boss Battle: Romaya

Being a necromancer, Romaya’s most powerful attack is her ability to summon undead servants. When the fight starts, there will be a flesh pile and a bone pile beside her. As long as those piles remain, she will be able to use her special attack to create new enemies from them.

The bone pile allows her to summon Revenants, and the flesh pile allows her to summon Guguls. If she is able to successfully summon any of these enemies, you must defeat them quickly to prevent them from overwhelming you.

You can attack the piles, so focus your attacks on them first. The flesh pile is weak to Sun attacks, and the bone pile is weak to Moon attacks. Use your solstice warriors and their magic to destroy the piles more quickly.

Once the piles are gone, Romaya’s battle options become limited but not weak. Her next strategy is to use a powerful special attack, Felfire Rain, which deals massive damage to your entire party. This special attack of hers is also activate by using 10 Locks, which can be difficult to break entirely within three turns.

When Romaya activates her locks, your best option is use Serai’s Disorient special attack. This will stun Romaya and add more turns to her Locks, giving you more chances to break them.

Repeat the process of breaking Romaya’s locks and stunning her until she finally loses all HP and admits defeat. After the fight, she will give you the Soul Stone. She will also give you some Green Flame, which you need to offer to the Ferryman for your return trip.

Return to Garl

Return to the main room and go back the way you originally game. Hop on the floating platform and flip its lever to have it carry you back to the main entrance.

Once outside and where you fought Duke Aventry, head east. Jump to the island there and then grapple to the other side. Go south to find another post and grapple to it to reach the starting point of the graveyard again.

Before you drop down to the ground level, use the series of islands and posts to the east to reach a cave.

In the cave, grapple to the left side and hook onto the large, retracted slab. This will make one of the torches in the center of the room light. The slab will begin to retract again though, so quickly grapple to the right side and hook the second retracted slab to make the second torch light. Once both torches are lit, a chest will appear. Open it to find 1x Enchanted Scarf.

Go back outside and jump down to the graveyard’s ground level. Head east to find the Ferryman and give him the green flame to have him take you back to the Town of Lucent and Garl.

The trio will use the Soul Stone to break him free of the dweller's curse. Once Garl is fully healed, Headmaster Moraine, Brugaves and Erlina will arrive on Wraith Island. With their arrival and Garl's recovery, you are set to follow Moraine to the Haunted Mansion to fight the Dweller of Woe.
